Dear Colleague
I would like to bring to your attention two posts that are available
at the Department of Earth Science, University of Bergen and I’d be
grateful if you would forward this information to any potentially
interested colleagues:

  1. A permanent academic post at Associate Professor level in
structural geology and/or sedimentology with a focus on reservoir
characterization and modeling (closing date: 15 September 2010).

2. A three-year postdoctoral fellowship in 3D seismic interpretation
and/or seismic geomorphology applied to sedimentology and/or
structural geology (closing date: 30 September 2010).

I have provided short summaries of each of the available positions at
the bottom of this e-mail and if anyone would like further information
they can contact me directly by e-mail to: robert.gawthorpe en geo.uib.no

More detailed information on both these posts and, importantly,
details on how to apply can be found at:
http://www.uib.no/positions

At UiB, the department’s research activity is organized within five
major research groups that have strong interdisciplinary links. The
key research groups are focused on Geodynamics, Marine Geology and
Geophysics, Petroleum Geoscience, Geobiology, and Quaternary Geology
and Palaeoclimate. The department is affiliated with the university’s
three centres of excellence: the Centre for Integrated Petroleum
Research, the Centre for Geobiology, and the Bjerknes Centre for
Climate Research. It has close cooperation with the Bergen Museum,
other faculty departments and industry (particularly the upstream
petroleum sector). Both posts will be hosted within the Petroleum
Geoscience Group. More information on the Department can be obtained
from www.uib.no/geo

Many thanks

Rob

Associate Professor in Reservoir Geology (closing date 15 September 2010)

We are looking for an active researcher with both fundamental research
expertise and professional experience in sedimentary and/or structural
geology of petroleum reservoirs. Ideally candidates should have
experience in one or more of the following disciplines:
characterization, analysis and modelling of subsurface reservoirs,
outcrop analogue studies, digital imaging of outcrops/reservoirs,
interpretation of 3D seismic geomorphology or basin structure, and
numerical simulation of sedimentation processes/systems. Broad
experience from field research and/or work in industrial
reservoir-study units will be considered advantageous. It is expected
that the applicant’s personal research interests and activity will
contribute significantly to those of the department’s Petroleum
Geoscience Group. The applicants should document their skills for
collaboration within and outside a research group, as well as their
ability to lead research projects and obtain external funding for
research.

Note that a willingness to learn Norwegian is expected, but not
essential for teaching. There is also an open possibility for the
successful applicant to seek promotion to a Professor position.

Postdoctoral Fellow (3 year) in 3D seismic interpretation and/or
seismic geomorphology (Closing date 30 September 2010)

We wish to attract an active researcher with proven research
experience in seismic interpretation of sedimentary and/or structural
geology who will help lead a team of postgraduate and postdoctoral
researchers under the supervision of Professor Rob Gawthorpe.
Expertise in one or more of: i) quantitative seismic geomorphology of
depositional systems, ii) structural characterisation of fault/fold
growth, iii) seismic imaging of fluid flow in sedimentary basins, iv)
structural style of mobile substrates, and v) sedimentary processes
along continental margins would complement existing projects.
Furthermore, experience of working with, and supporting, large 3D
seismic projects and/or working with the petroleum industry will be
considered advantageous. It is a prerequisite that a PhD dissertation
has been approved before appointment is granted.
