Asunto: RE: EGU 2013 Session GD3.5/CR1.5/EMRP4.4/G6.4/TS10.8- Crustal
structure and geodynamic evolution in the Antarctic and Arctic regions
(co-organized)- Inivtation to Submit abstracts and attend the Session
Dear colleagues,
I hope you have all enjoyed a good festive break. I am aware from the
automated messages that several of you will be back on the 7th. Jan.
This message is a reminder to those of you that may not yet have submitted
their abstract to consider contributing abstracts to our session entitled.
"Crustal structure and geodynamic evolution in the Antarctic and Arctic
regions" that we have proposed for the EGU General Assembly in Vienna (7-12
April 2013).
THE DEADLINE FOR THE RECEIPT OF THE ABSTRACTS IS 9 JAN 2013
This is an interdisciplinary and international geosciences session in the
polar regions that has been sponsored by several EGU programme groups.
Interest in the session is growing steadily as we get closer to the abstract
deadline.
We have had positive responses from several invited speakers for the
proposed session such as David Mosher & Nina Lebedeva to present their
Arctic research results & Detlef Damaske (presenting both Arctic and
Antarctic geophysical research at BGR), Doug Wiens (presenting seismology
results in both East and West Antarctica) & Graeme Eagles presenting his
geodynamic reconstructions over the Scotia Sea and Southern Ocean gateways.
A brief description of our session is reported below-

GD3.5/CR1.5/EMRP4.4/G6.4/TS10.8
Crustal structure and geodynamic evolution in the Antarctic and Arctic
regions
Convener: Fausto Ferraccioli
Co-Conveners: Frank Lisker , Rick Saltus
The International Polar Year 2007-2009 spurred intense geophysical and
geological research over several frontier regions in Antarctica and in the
Arctic. Additionally, new data collection spurred by Article 76 of the
United Nations’ Law of the Sea Convention has significantly improved
geophysical data coverages in the Arctic.
These investigations are providing novel views of: i) deep crust and
lithosphere structure; ii) the processes of geological evolution, including
their interplays with supercontinental assembly and breakup; iii) the
opening of ocean gateways; iv) the influence of geological boundary
conditions on ice sheet evolution and dynamics.
This session will provide an international and interdisciplinary forum where
results from major geosciences projects will be presented.
Examples include: airborne, marine and satellite exploration; active and
passive seismic studies; GPS and seismic polar networks; magnetotelluric and
geomagnetic depth sounding; geological field research and sediment
provenance studies; regional and continental-scale compilations of
geophysical and geological datasets; models of lithosphere structure,
geodynamic evolution, and new models of geological boundary conditions for
paleo and modern topography and for analysing the influence of subice
geology on ice sheet evolution and dynamics.

We aim to hold several oral blocks coupled with a vibrant poster session
with plenty of opportunities for discussing your new results and possible
future research directions.
To submit an abstract, please follow this link
(http://www.egu2013.eu/abstract_management/how_to_submit_an_abstract.html).
The description of the session is also presented in this link
http://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU2013/session/12534
Submissions are invited for both poster and oral presentations.
THE DEADLINE FOR THE RECEIPT OF THE ABSTRACTS IS 9 JAN 2013!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------
We would also be grateful if you could draw the attention of our session to
any of your colleagues you think are appropriate, and in particular to your
younger researchers and students that may be want either to contribute
and/or participate.
We look forward to seeing you in Vienna!
