Estimados Colegas,
tengo el agrado de comunicarme con Ustedes a fin de informarles acerca del 2º Congreso Internacional de Circulación Marina Profunda, enfocado particularmente en procesos contorníticos (2DWC), e invitarlos a participar. El evento tendrá lugar en la ciudad de Ghent, Bélgica, entre el 10 y el 12 de Septiembre de 2014.
Adjunto debajo un correo enviado por el Dr. David Van Rooij, Presidente y Organizador local del Congreso, con las primeras novedades acerca de la reunión. Y a continuación de ese, una síntesis de los principales objetivos que perseguirá el Congreso. Se están haciendo las gestiones para que el Journal of Marine Geology edite un volumen especial con las versiones completas de los mejores trabajos presentados.

Dear colleagues,
I am happy to announce that the website with first circular information and poster finally is activated on http://www.2dwc.ugent.be
At this moment, I would already like to thank Kurt Blom for all his support on this!
Gradually, towards the end of the month, the website will be upgraded to a full version with active online registration of the event. As members of the organizing committee and coordinating team, please don’t hesitate to actively advertise for this contourite event of the year ;-).
I will send this around to several mailing lists of previous meetings, but a bit of cross-posting can never hurt.

OBJECTIVES:
This congress will be held in Ghent, Belgium from 10-12 September 2014 as the follow-up of the highly successful first congress held in Baiona, Spain, in June 2010, and the Workshop held in Hull, England, in January 2013.
We aim to assemble a very wide range of expertise to tackle the pending issues in contourite research and to foster multidisciplinary discussions, focusing on the following main congress topics:
(a) The coupling between (physical) oceanographic processes and contouritic sedimentation
(b) The vital role of contouritic processes in the initiation, maintenance and decay of deep-water ecosystems (co-sponsored by COCARDE)
(c) The influence of the lateral and temporal variability of contourite sedimentation on slope (in)stability (co-sponsored by IGCP 585)
(d) The economic relevance of contourites within hydrocarbon systems, as well as in the formation process of polymetallic nodules
Besides these main topics, we also warmly welcome contributions focusing on:
• Technological advances in geophysics and geochemistry such as seismic oceanography, the application of CT scanning and proxy development
• Advances and methods in facies characterization and classification
• Recognition, characterization and importance of ancient contourite outcrops, for its comparison with the deep-water record
• Shallow-water and lake contourites: similarities and differences with the deep-water record
• 3D seismic geomorphology and contourites
