CALL FOR SHORT PAPERS WITH BIG IDEAS about

COASTAL MANAGEMENT IN TIMES OF COVID-19
Special Issue for Ocean & Coastal Management

Invited Editors: Gerardo M. E. Perillo – Camilo M. Botero - Omar
Cervantes - Carla Elliff - Celene B. Milanés

In 2020, worldwide normality changed rapidly due to the COVID-19
pandemic. Activities in coastal areas are suffering in different ways
the effects of massive population isolation. Activities such as sun, sea
and sand (3S) tourism, which involve millions of people and companies,
stopped entirely, leaving big questions about how to regain economic and
social normality. Other socioeconomic activities affected include ports,
fisheries or the shipbuilding industry that had to adapt almost
instantly to an emergency situation.
Consequently, new approaches are necessary for coastal management, both
for the current emergency, which seems to extend beyond 2020 and for the
so-called "new normality" after the pandemic. We consider appropriate to
listen to the voice of scholars, solving the central question that all
decision-makers have in the marine and coastal areas: How should coasts
be managed in this new reality? A broad question difficult to answer in
a context of uncertainty, but to which Ocean & Coastal Management
considers appropriate, necessary and urgent to contribute.
We invite all researchers who wish to share reflections on the present
and future Integrated Coastal Management, or coastal uses and
activities, to submit manuscripts by 15th October 2020. The Special
Issue Editors are aware that it is not yet possible to have confirmed
data series and hypotheses, given that we are still in an emergency
situation and the level of uncertainty is very wide. However, this is an
opportunity for the scientific community to demonstrate its ability to
react in a timely manner to challenges, providing contributions to
continue towards the evolution of human society.
This special edition is supported and led by the Ibero American Network
for Beach Management and Certification RED PROPLAYAS (www.proplayas.org)

Prior to submission, please send to the Invited Editors a 250-words
(MAX) abstract of the paper you plan to submit. The editors will analyze
the pertinence of the paper to the objectives of the special issue.
