Journal of South American Earth Sciences - Promotional Access of Special Issues

Journal of South American Earth Sciences is pleased to announce that articles from below special issues are free to access on ScienceDirect until 20 Jan 2022.

“Hazardous Faults in Latin America”, guest edited by Carlos Costa, Laurence Audin

Subduction earthquakes are the most significant seismic threat for Latin America. However, destructive earthquakes related to shallow crustal sources have occurred onshore, where many important cities and critical facilities are settled nearby crustal fault sources. This Special Issue aims to provide to the Earth Sciences community and other potential users with case histories, recent advances, and present trends outcoming from the increasing information devoted to the geology of Seismogenic Sources.

“Thermochronology in South America: From Cordilleras to Cratons”, guest edited by Federico Davila, Mauricio Parra

Thermochronology and geochronology share many theoretical and technical fundamentals (e.g., Reiners et al., 2005...

Low-temperature thermochronology is an excellent proxy to understand the thermal evolution of the upper crust (<10 km), particularly when geological observations, different methods and low-temperature closure minerals (fission tracks and U-Th / He in apatites and zircons) are combined. In South America, this type of information has contributed to understanding mountain building and modes of deformation along the Andes and proto-Andes as well as the exhumations associated with passive and cratonic belts along the Atlantic margin. This special issue addresses new data, analytical and numerical modeling as well as novel applications in various mineral systems and regions of South America to attack different geodynamic and geological problems.
