Hello fellow limnogeologists!

2025 comes with a lot of news for the Limnogeology community!

Included here: a call for abstracts to the IAL-IPA meeting in October, a
new ECR award named after Beth Gierlowski-Kordesch, call for nominations
for the Bradley medal, and plans to celebrate the career and impact of
Andrew S. Cohen, who passed away recently.

*IAL-IPA JOINT MEETING:* This year the *3rd International Paleolimnology
and Limnogeology Symposium* will take place in October in France, you can
find more about it at the website:

First call for abstracts is now open until *April 8, 2025*

IAL sponsors the following 7 topic sessions in the symposium (session
abstracts and convenors can be found on our IAL website and on the
symposium website):

*--- Hydrothermal and groundwater influences on lacustrine sedimentation
and paleoecology: A tribute to Michael Rosen*

*--- Merging outcrop and sediment coring in paleolimnology and limnogeology*

*--- Tectonics, climate, ecology, and geomorphology in rift lakes*

*--- Identifying climate extremes from lake archives*

*--- Sedimentology and stratigraphy in modern and ancient lake records
through Earth history*

*--- Deep-time carbonate-rich lacustrine systems*

*--- How can modeling approaches help us to understand past, present and
future lakes?*



The call for proposals for short courses and fieldtrips is open as well.

*AWARDS:* Call for IAL award nominations is now open until *April 18, 2025*

We are happy to now make the call for two IAL awards: (1) the IAL W.H.
Bradley Medal to celebrate lifetime achievement in limnogeology; and (2) a
new ECR award named after Beth Gierlowski-Kordesch: the IAL
*Gierlowski-Kordesch
Early Career Excellence Award*. More information can be found attached here
and on our website.

Please send your nominations for both awards by email to
ialimnogeology en gmail.com. The award recipients will be announced at a medal
ceremony at the upcoming joint meeting in France, Oct. 2025.

*CELEBRATING ANDY COHEN: *We are presently organizing a set of short
presentations for the plenary sessions to honor the legacy of Andy Cohen, a
leader in our IAL community. Together with the International Paleolimnology
Association (IPA), we will celebrate Andy’s career and his impact on all of
us as a friend, mentor, and colleague.

We are also working to organize a volume to be published in the Syntheses
in Limnogeology series (Springer) that will highlight Andy’s international
impact on our science and community. Please stay tuned for more information.
