Estos afloramientos están caracterizados por una alta riqueza fosilífera donde se encuentran entre la meiofauna: foraminíferos, ostrácodos, conchas embrionarias de moluscos y otolitos, dientes y vértebras de peces. A estas rocas se les asignó una edad del Plioceno en base a los foraminíferos y ostrácodos. Dentro del contenido de invertebrados los más abundantes son los moluscos (gasterópodos, bivalvos y escafópodos), también hay presencia de corales, crustáceos (cirripedios, decápodos e icnofósiles) y equinodermos regulares.
