| Dear María Elena,

Recent developments in 3D imaging have transformed our ability to resolve the processes occurring at the pore scale. We can now routinely characterize pore space with a billion voxels, which provides a wealth of information that can be used to provide new insights into the physics of single and multiphase flow, transport and reaction in subsurface porous media.

This workshop will review and present the latest developments in these techniques and technologies, and their application to the better understanding of recovery processes in conventional and unconventional hydrocarbon reservoirs. The emphasis will be on new ideas, imaging and modelling across scales and the use of these technologies to understand flow processes.
The workshop is structured along two themes. The morning session will focus on multiphase flow, showcasing advances in the modelling and experimental imaging of dynamic processes, wettability and non-invasive interface curvature & capillary pressure measurement. The afternoon session will address the use of digital rock analysis to study fluid-rock & fluid-fluid interactions. This will include examining the impact of pore-space / flow / transport / mineralogical heterogeneity on effective reaction rates and dissolution regimes at the pore & Darcy scale.

The workshop will include dedicated discussions of the use and application of digital rock technology to fields as diverse as oil and gas recovery, carbon storage and contaminant transport, and will include invited & submitted presentations, as well as posters. |
