Dear Colleagues
I write to update you on the status of these benchmarks.
Here are the number of participants in each of the benchmarks:
Benchmark 1: Shell dynamo - 7 submissions
Benchmark 2a: Thermal convection - 4 submissions
Benchmark 2b: Internally heated dynamo - 4 submissions
Benchmark 3: Boundary-driven flow - 6 submissions
Only a relatively few local methods took part.
* We will start to finalise the paper on benchmark I and late
submissions cannot be guaranteed to be included.
* Benchmarks 2 and 3 will be extended until Christmas and then the
report will be finalised.
Any late participants should contact the organisers.
We would like to thank all participants for their efforts in a very
successful exercise.
The benchmarks are at the website
http://jupiter.ethz.ch/~ajackson/benchmark/benchmarks.html
Sincerely,
Andy Jackson

---------- ORIGINAL ANNOUNCEMENT -----------------------
It is now more than 10 years since the very useful benchmark exercise
organised by Uli Christensen.
Since then there has been an upswing in the number of different
numerical methods employed by the community.
During development of these new methods it is useful to check them
against precisely known solutions.
Therefore we have now defined some more spherical community benchmarks,
and would welcome your involvement.
The benchmarks can be found at
http://jupiter.ethz.ch/~ajackson/benchmark/benchmarks.html
We welcome as large an involvement as possible. In the case of queries,
please contact the organisers.
We welcome submission of results by October for the two papers that plan
to be written to present the results.
Sincerely
Andy Jackson
