Dear friends and colleagues,
I am co-organising 2 sessions at the AGU Joint Assembly in Montréal,
3-7th May 2015 (http://ja.agu.org/2015/). See both session descriptions
below. Please consider participating and distribute these session
descriptions to your colleagues and everyone that might be interested!
All session descriptions are now on the website
(https://agu.confex.com/agu/ja2015/webprogrampreliminary/programs.html).
The abstract submission is until January 14.
I hope to see you in Montréal!
Cheers,
Agathe

*Earth Magnetic Field Variability in the Southern Hemisphere *

Past variability of the geomagnetic field recorded in rocks, marine and
lacustrine sediments, speleothems, archaeological material, and
historical archives provide insights in geodynamics, tectonics,
chronostratigraphy and paleoclimatology. However, data from the Southern
Hemisphere are limited and critically under-represented relative to the
Northern Hemisphere. Recent efforts to close that gap in paleomagnetic
datasets from the Southern Hemisphere aim at building regional reference
dating curves for sediment cores and archaeological sites, calibrating
global geomagnetic field models, better understanding the geodynamo, the
polarity reversal process, the geomagnetic field morphology during
excursion, and features such as the South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA) through
time. In this session, we welcome contributions from all types of
geological and historical archives from the Southern Hemisphere as well
as geomagnetic modeling from all timescales.

*Combining Archaeology and Geosciences: the Challenges of Variable Time
and Spatial Scales / **Rallier l’archéologie et les géosciences : les
défis des échelles variables dans le temps et l’espace*

This session explores recent developments in geoarchaeology, the science
bridging geosciences and archaeology. Geoarchaeology is a dynamic and
innovative field that applies geoscientific concepts, tools and methods
to archaeological research questions. Contributions from sedimentology,
geochronology, geochemistry, geology, geography and geophysics at
variable time and spatial scales are invited. New applications and
promising research avenues in geoarchaeology are welcome.
