Dear GP community,

With true sadness I have to inform you that the inventor of the
paleomagnetic drill and orientor, Dan Pomeroy, has lost his battle to
cancer on November 17th this year

Dan was a brilliant inventor and an amazing person.
Some of us knew him personally. Many of us have used a Pomeroy drill.
All of us have seen empty core holes left by Dan's drills all over the
globe. Number of scientific papers published and theses defended, where
paleomag samples were collected using Pomeroy's drills? Countless.

Dan's drills were used for rock and ice core drilling, for saving lives
after the Oklahoma city bombing, to extract a kid from a locked bank's
vault...

The production of Pomeroy's drills and orientors will continue. Please
reach out to John Toth from ASC Scientific, jtoth en ascscientific.com, for
orders. Also, if any of the local (to Bay Area) folks wish to purchase
some of Dan's instruments, please reach out to his wife, Teresa
(sloughkayaker en gmail.com).
