The thirteenth generation of the International Geomagnetic Reference 
Field (IGRF-13) has been released. Fifteen international teams submitted 
candidate models for consideration which were evaluated by a task force, 
which then voted on how to combine all the different candidates into a 
final set of models. The IGRF-13 includes an updated main field model 
the 2015 epoch (DGRF2015), a new main field model for the 2020 epoch 
(IGRF2020), and a predictive secular variation model for the 2020-2025 
time period. The validity range for IGRF-13 is 1900 to 2025.

A special issue in Earth, Planets and Space is in preparation which will 
contain papers on the different candidate models, the evaluation 
process, and a final summary paper.
