  University of Burgos post-doc research opportunity: _PALEOMAGNETIC
STUDY OF BURNT ARCHAEOLOGICAL MATERIALS AND SPELEOTHEMS OF THE HOLOCENE
AND UPPER PLEISTOCENE._

  We seek a postdoctoral scientist with strong field and laboratory
experience in paleo/ archaeomagnetism to work with experienced
researchers at the Laboratory of Palaeomagnetism of Burgos University
(Spain).

  The project will focus on the study of prehistoric burnt archaeological
materials along with speleothems with a twofold goal. On the one hand,
it is intended to increase and extend in time the existing geomagnetic
databases in Spain obtaining full-vector data (direction and absolute
paleointensity). This will allow to extend the archaeomagnetic dating
technique to the recent prehistory. On the other hand, directional and
relative paleointensity analyses will be carried out on Holocene and
Upper Pleistocene speleothems from the Iberian Peninsula in order to
reconstruct paleoenvironmental variations. Additionally, this post-doc
will also explore other archaeomagnetic applications of
geoarchaeological interest. The materials to be studied comprise
hearths, pottery or burnt cave sediments as well as speleothems from the
Iberian Peninsula.

  This project will involve collaboration with different institutions
providing the researcher a good opportunity to gain experience in this
field. The funding is open to researchers of any nationality. The
hosting group will help the candidates, especially foreigners, with the
bureaucratic limitations that may arise. Burgos University paleomagnetic
lab is fully equipped to successfully carry out this project and the
scientific staff has wide experience in paleomagnetic, paleointensity
and rock-magnetic research.
