Dear colleagues,

It is with deep sadness that we learned a few days ago of the passing of
MICHEL PRÉVOT, at the age of 86. A student of Émile Thellier, Michel
devoted the first twenty years of his career to the paleomagnetism
laboratory in Saint-Maur-des-Fossés, close to Paris, before moving to
Montpellier in 1985 where he founded the laboratory that has, over the
years, become our shared scientific home.

I am also attaching a text that I co-authored with Avto and Manuel,
written as an introduction to a special issue published in 2009 in _EPS_
on the occasion of his retirement.

Finally,  we will pay a special tribute to him during the next CASTLE
MEETING, which will be held for the first time in France, in
Collonges-la-Rouge in Corrèze, next summer, where a dedicated session
will honor his memory.
