Dear colleague,
We would like to invite you to participate in the session GD5.3/TS6.12
"Orogenesis and Geodynamics related to the collision with microplates"
at the European Geosciences Union, General Assembly Vienna, Austria
(7-12 April, 2013 - deadline for submitting abstracts: January 9, 2013).
In the past decades the worldwide and time-independent existence of
numerous fossil microplates ("exotic terranes") has been confirmed. The
collision of these microplates with continental plates is an important
phenomenon of lateral crustal growth. Crucial are geological processes
within the collisional zone, which are relatively reduced in space and
often related to specific parts of major orogens. However, its evolution
through time is generally very heterogeneous and hence still little
understood. Better resolution of this specific tectonic environment
requires process-oriented studies of different disciplines and
expertise. Thus, we invite contributions on all methodological aspects
and approaches related to this specific topic by petrologists,
geochronologists, structural geologists, sedimentologists, and
geophysicists. Field studies as well as modelling are welcome. We are
looking forward to a sound and vivid interdisciplinary discussion.

P.S.: Please forward this announcement also to colleagues who might be
interested!
