Hi all,
Currently two researchers and post-doc positions are available in a new
research center for Ocean Drilling Science (ODS) of JAMSTEC, a national
research institute of marine and earth sciences of Japan.
The successful candidates for the researcher positions may have experience
in geophysics / geophysical logging. The period of employment starts from 1
April 2015 until 31 March 2020 (5-year term) and there is a possibility to
change the contract to an unlimited one after evaluation. Two URLs are
attached below for details.
The post-doc positions are for three years and the successful candidates
will receive a research grant that will enable them to work independently
on a research topic of their choice and we welcome anyone who have
interests on scientific drilling. For details, visit the website below.
We would very much appreciate, if you could forward this mail to your
colleagues and students, who may have interest.
I am happy to answer further questions.
best wishes,
Yasuhiro
Position 1: Borehole Informatics Group
A research position in the integration of seismic, geophysical logging, and
core sample data to develop a detailed understanding of the dynamic
behavior, three-dimensional geometry, and characteristics of sub-seafloor
geology. The successful candidate, who should have a strong background in
exploration geophysics, especially seismic data processing, will lead
research and development by combining seismic and logging data, becoming
involved in IODP activity, and contributing to breakthroughs in the
integration of core-log-seismic data.

Position 2: Plate Boundary Drilling Research Group
This position is to research on plate subduction and fault activity at
convergent margins and to construct new views of the interrelationships of
a variety of phenomena related to various types of earthquakes and tsunami
generation. The successful candidate will lead research and development
using geophysical logging data and/or other techniques and will contribute
to breakthroughs in the understanding of various natural phenomena related
to plate subduction and fault activity at active plate margins.

Position 3: Postdoctoral Fellow Programme
We will hire 5 post-docs internationally, for all kinds of marine and earth
sciences. The successful candidates will receive a research grant and work
independently on a research topic of their choice. During the contract
period, they will have access to the necessary facilities and equipment at
JAMSTEC.
