Dear all

After several months of development - the Virtual Seismic Atlas has been rebuilt and is now open for access at the usual URL:

www.seismicatlas.org

We hope you'll have an improved experience. We'll be adding step-by-step guides for adding content and other features over the coming months.

If you've bookmarked content in the old VSA using conventional URLs in your browser, these won't work, as the internal working of the VSA have been reconfigured. But there is still the faceted search function which allows serendipitous discovery of content.

If you've not come across the VSA - it's an open-access resource that is freely available for browsing - and, subject to respecting the IP of authors, content (high-resolution jpegs) may be downloaded for use. This is the basic access route and involves
 no passwords or log-ins.

If you'd like to add content (and we welcome posting of new interpretations of existing images, together with tiered clean and interpreted images), you'll need to get a log-in ID. There are added advantages of this - as you can manage your own favorites
list (these have been transferred from VSA1.0 into the new version). We've also stream-lined the password management system for registered authors/users. There's lots of info on the VSA that will help you to set up an account - and this too is free.

It's worth pointing out that the VSA has negotiated republication agreements with the Geological Society Publishing House, SEPM and EAGE - so that, if you've published seismic images in their publications, you can republish them on the VSA without requiring
further copyright clearance. And all content can link to external webpages - such as publication portals or your own research pages - so the VSA is a great way of publicising your seismic-based research and papers. The VSA is visited by thousands of earth
scientists each month, from all around the world, roughly split 50:50 between academia and industry.

The VSA results from a partnership between academia, industry and the UK's Natural Environment Research Council.

We hope you enjoy VSA2.0.

Best wishes
