Hello everyone,
I am writing to inform you of a session being organized by Sandra Barr,
Jim Hibbard, Monica Escayola, and myself on "Appalachian
Connections Through the Americas" at the upcoming Joint Assembly
(AGU-GAC-MAC-IAH-CGU) in Toronto, May 24-27,
2009. The abstract deadline is fast approaching (March 4). You can
find out more details about the meeting on the Joint Assembly Web
site, at http://www.agu.org/meetings/ja09/?content=program, or at the
equivalent Canadian association site
(http://www.jointassembly2009.ca/).
Our session fits well with the overall theme of the meeting ("a major
continental event") and will focus on potential connections among
components of the Appalachian orogen (broad sense) in eastern North
America and
their possible correlatives in South America. Given the rapidly
expanding databases - chemical, geochronological, structural,
chemical, and geophysical - throughout the Appalachian orogen,
combined with the proliferation of speculations concerning the
significance of similarities and differences both across and along
strike, the intent of this session is to bring together geologists
with diverse approaches to identify, compare, and contrast the
various components of this mountain belt and discuss their
provenances as well their roles in orogenic evolution.
Please forward this message to students and colleagues who may not be
on our mailing list, and consider submitting an abstract yourself.
We would appreciate hearing from you if you intend to submit an
abstract or if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Cees
(on behalf also of
Sandra, Jim, and Monica)
