Estimados colegas,
Les hago llegar información sobre la Sesión TS7-2: Eruptions and tephra
dispersal, organizada en el marco del 18th International Sedimentological
Congress a realizarse en Mendoza del 26 de septiembre al 1º de octubre
próximos.
Technical Session TS7-2: Eruptions and tephra dispersal
Session Description: The recent eruptions of Hudson Volcano (1971/91) and
the ongoing eruption of Chaiten (2008-present) have clearly shown that
hazards associated with these eruptions not only pose a risk to adjacent
communities but also that ash-fall (tephra) can be distributed over
exceptionally large areas of southern South America (Cono Sur) and at the
same time, pose a significant and wide-ranging hazard to civil aviation,
agriculture and communities.
This session will focus on explosive eruptions and tephra dispersal. We are
particularly keen to encourage papers dealing with the utilisation of tephra
as chrono-stratigraphic markers in wide-ranging paleoenvironmental and
sedimentological studies. Since a tephra can be extensively distributed
through the landscape, its value as a chrono-stratigraphic tool has been
increasingly recognised to the point where tephra are now routinely utilised
in research that focus on such diverse topics as lake sediments, shoreline
levels, glacial advance & retreat, reconstructing drainage evolution, as
well as understanding the growth and development of sedimentary basins. For
this session, we invite the submission of abstracts for talks and posters
that document eruptions and utilise widely dispersed tephra as a
chrono-stratigraphic tool. Papers focussing on tephra dispersion, modelling
and emplacement would also be very welcome.
La fecha límite para la presentación de los abstracts es el próximo 30 de
abril. Pueden consultar más detalles en la página del congreso:

Quedan todos invitados a presentar sus contribuciones.
Saludos cordiales,
