Dear fellow limnogeologists,
We have exciting news about *3rd Paleolimnology and Limnogeology
International Symposium:*
*Extension of Abstract Submission Deadline*
Please note that the *deadline for abstract submission* has been extended
to *May 30th* and remember that IAL sponsors the following 7 topic sessions
in the symposium:
**Hydrothermal and groundwater influences on lacustrine sedimentation and
paleoecology: A tribute to Michael Rosen*
**Merging outcrop and sediment coring in paleolimnology and limnogeology*
**Tectonics, climate, ecology, and geomorphology in rift lakes*
**Identifying climate extremes from lake archives*
**Sedimentology and stratigraphy in modern and ancient lake records through
Earth history*
**Deep-time carbonate-rich lacustrine systems*
**How can modeling approaches help us to understand past, present and
future lakes?*
*Registration is now OPEN!*
The early bird registration fees are 250 euros for the full rate and 150
euros for the student rate, plus 50 euros if you wish to sign up for the
gala dinner. These early bird rates are available to *May 1st 2025*. Note
that final registration will close on July 23rd 2025.
*Award Nominations*
Please remember that the deadline for IAL* award nominations* is 18th April
2025. There are two awards: IAL Gierlowski-Kordesch Early Career Excellence
in Limnogeology and the IAL W.H. Bradley Medal for Lifetime Achievement in
Limnogeology. Please see the IAL website for details
https://www.limnogeology.org/awards. Nomination materials should be
submitted by email to ialimnogeology en gmail.com
*IAL-IPA Student inclusion grant*
We are happy to announce that there will be 6 grants awarded to students
presenting in person at the IAL-IPA joint meeting in France. The grants
will cover registration and accommodation (provided). Applications due May
30th. Please see the meeting website or the IAL and IPA websites for
details and the application procedure (coming soon).
*Short courses*
The conference website includes details of a number of exciting *short
courses. *These will be held at the University Savoie Mont-Blanc the week
before and/or after the congress, offering Early Career Researchers an
opportunity to upgrade their skills in several areas.

*Next Venue*
Finally, we invite everyone to consider whether you would like to offer to
host the next meeting, planned for 2028. To suggest a location for the next
joint IAL-IPA symposium, the prospective host should prepare a small
presentation for the Business Meeting at the symposium in Aix-les-Bains in
October. A very short PowerPoint presentation (e.g., 5 minutes) may be
useful. If more than one proposal is presented, then the participants will
vote on the selection of the next symposium site. Although completely
optional, prospective hosts may also choose to discuss their proposals
ahead of time with the IPA and IAL executives. We encourage submissions
from regions where symposia have not been hosted previously. Guidelines for
preparing an *offer to host a symposium* can be found at:
https://www.paleolim.org/symposiumguidelines
We look forward to seeing many of you in Aix-les-Bains!
Warm regards,
IAL Board.
