Asunto: [Gpmag-l] PhD opportunity in paleomagnetism at IPGP
Para: GPMAG <gpmag-l en ucsd.edu>, GP-MPRG <emrp en gfz-potsdam.de>

Dear colleagues and graduate students,

We would like to encourage graduate students and Masters of Science
graduates to apply for a Ph.D. studentship competition at the Institut de
Physique du Globe de Paris.

The Ph. D. project will target the remanent magnetization acquisition
mechanism of loess deposits, as well as remagnetization processes induced
by mineral alteration in response to climate and environmental change.

Among the various approaches considered, the project will involve (1) acquiring
detailed paleomagnetic records from European loess deposits, (2) conducting
controlled laboratory experiments to evaluate the remagnetization
efficiency of naturally occurring diagenetic and pedogenic processes, and
(3) numerically modeling the evolution of the paleomagnetic signal from
loess-paleosol sequences.

Prior experience in paleomagnetism or rock and mineral magnetism is
preferred. The application processes is highly competitive. If selected,
the PhD project will start in September/October 2019. The PhD student must
hold a Master of Science before this date.

At this stage of the selection process, we encourage potential candidates
to send a detailed *curriculum vitae* before January 21, 2019 to either
Yohan Guyodo (yohan.guyodo en umpmc.fr) or France Lagroix (lagroix en ipgp.fr).
You may also contact us for further information.
Wishing you all a happy holiday season,
Yohan and France
