Dear GPMag community,

I’d like to draw your attention to the following opportunity at UF. The
Pmag lab at UF has three faculty, two cryogenic magnetometers, two VSM’s, a
shielded room, ovens, and a Kappabridge in addition to the other facilities
across the department (see details below). Please circulate to any
interested parties.

Thanks,

The Department of Geological Sciences at the University of Florida invites
applications for a full-time, twelve-month, non-tenure-accruing position at
the rank of Associate Scientist or Scientist. We invite applicants with
experience in maintaining and developing analytical instruments in support
of research in Earth and Planetary Sciences starting as soon as January
2022.

The Department of Geological Sciences hosts shared and individual
investigator research labs with instruments ranging from:
multi-collector-ICP-mass spectrometers, light stable isotope mass
spectrometers, noble gas mass spectrometers, cryogenic magnetometers, UV
and IR laser-ablation sampling systems, scanning electron microscope, GC
and UHPLC mass spectrometers (single and triple-quad), gas and liquid
chromographs, X-Ray diffractometer, deployable water sampling devices,
high-performance computing Linux workstations and more (

The Associate Scientist/Scientist will work with lab managers and faculty
to ensure instrumentation is in optimal working condition, which will
include scheduled maintenance, troubleshooting hardware, software, and
computer problems, electronic and mechanical repairs, installing and
testing detectors and ion sources, designing detection systems,
coordinating with manufactures for site or remote service visits, and
related activities. The position may also involve independent research or
instrument development depending on the applicant’s interests and
qualifications. The facilities in the Department operate as open labs and
are managed by highly qualified researchers. The candidate must have
excellent communication and interpersonal skills in addition to technical
and analytical experience with various analytical instruments. Required
qualifications include a B.S. degree with relevant experience or a graduate
(M.S. or Ph.D.) in engineering, geochemistry, chemistry, geophysics,
physics, or a related field. Information about the Department can be found
at geology.ufl.edu
