Dear colleagues,
We are happy to announce that pre-registration for the 14th IRM
Conference on Rock Magnetism is now open. The deadline is *March 17th*.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
*General Information & pre-registration*
The meeting will be held on the University of Minnesota Twin-Cities
campus, *June 9-12th*.
Financial support from NSF and our sponsors allows us to cover the cost
of lodging and food for most in-person attendees. Partial travel support
will be available to students.
There will be a virtual option to allow those who cannot attend in
person to stream the keynote and oral session presentations.
There will be four oral sessions, two keynote speakers, a poster
session, and a workshop. The oral sessions are by invitation only, but
we welcome poster presentations on any topics that explore the magnetic
properties of minerals/natural materials and their applications to Earth
and planetary sciences.
The conference is open to all and there are no fees, but registration is
required for both those interested in attending in-person or virtually.
*We are limiting the number of in-person attendees to 50*, and we will
be using a two-stage registration process to assess the number of people
hoping to attend in-person or virtually. For both in-person and virtual
participation we kindly ask that you complete the Google
pre-registration form linked below.
*Please pre-register by March 17th, 2025, by completing this _Google
Form_ <https://forms.gle/bfJx8SgadGNJrrbK7>.*
Following the pre-registration deadline, we will contact both those
interested in attending in-person and virtually. For those who would
like to attend in-person, we will let you know if we can accommodate you
and will provide information on the second registration step. /*Please
do not make travel arrangements at this time. We ask that you wait until
you receive confirmation of in-person attendance from the IRM. */
------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Keynote Lectures (Monday, June 9th & Tuesday, June 11th)
*
There will be two one hour long keynote lectures, focusing on the
intersection of rock magnetism with other disciplines in the Earth Sciences.
The first keynote lecture will take place *the evening of Monday, June
9th*, and will be followed by an informal icebreaker. **Topics: **
* *Iron cycling through geological time from a geochemical perspective*
* Identifying and understanding critical mineral deposits through
aeromagnetic surveys and rock magnetism
------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Oral Sessions **(Tuesday, June 10th & Wednesday, June 11th)*
There will be four oral sessions, lasting 2.5 hours, featuring four
presentations in each.
**Topics:**
* Microbial iron cycling and magnetic records of global change
* Fundamentals of terrestrial and extraterrestrial rock magnetic
assemblages
* Applications of machine learning and artificial intelligence to rock
and paleomagnetic methods
* Magnetism of critical mineral deposits
------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Community Workshop (Thursday, June 12th)
*
The community workshop will offer hands-on experience in acquiring data
with IRM instrumentation and analyzing it using in-development
open-source software. We will showcase new capabilities for contributing
rock magnetic data to the MagIC database and guide participants through
the data upload process. Additionally, the workshop will provide
opportunities to discuss community priorities for enhancing open-access
data archiving and reproducible analysis.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Poster Sessions and Abstract Submission
*There will be an in-person poster session, covering all aspects of rock
magnetism and paleomagnetism, in the afternoon of *Tuesday, June 10th*.
There will be an option to select to present a poster on the Google Form
linked above. Information on abstract submission will be available once
there is confirmation of in-person attendence.
